How Your Website Makes Or Breaks The Sale – Even If They Call You First

April 28, 2014 by Seamus Anthony Leave a Comment

A great looking, well-thought out website really can make or break the sale, even if they called you first before ever seeing your website…

People may tend to call your business via word-of-mouth and you may have your phone manner down to fine art – but what about your website? Is it awesome?

The thing to understand is this:

Whether They Call You First Or Not, At Some Point They Will Research You Online…

… and first impressions count!

You might think you’re awesome, but if your website sucks, people won’t agree with you…

April 19, 2014 by Seamus Anthony 2 Comments

Digital marketing unicorns – like some a kind of glittery plague of elusive, magical ferals, they’re everywhere.

Now, I hate to come across as an old curmudgeon but it’s time to turn those damned unicorns into pet food and glue. Or if that freaks you out, let’s at least put a few out to pasture once and for all.

Here’s a few that I have firmly in my high powered unicorn-rifle sights…

Simple Website Design: 3 Reasons Why Clean Design Makes Sense

March 31, 2014 by Seamus Anthony Leave a Comment

Simple website design is better and you know it. Here’s 3 reasons why your gut instinct to go for a simple, clean website design is spot on.

#1 – Simple Website Designs Let The Content Take Centre Stage

Remember a few years ago when every website you saw was full of flashy (Flash) graphics and big round graded design elements like menu items, columns and buttons? The trouble with these designs was that the designers were letting their egos get in the way. Nobody cares about a button. Nobody goes to a website to see the awesome way that the flash animation does the jive-bunny. People go to your website because they want to something, and by “something” I don’t mean a sweet website template. I mean content.

Not very simple website design example. I am sure they are nice people but their website detracts from the content. The website itself should be all but invisible.

What Do WordPress Themes & Trampolines Have In Common?

March 28, 2014 by Seamus Anthony 2 Comments

A couple of years ago my wife and I went looking online for a trampoline and were amazed to discover how inexpensive they were to buy.

Back when I was a kid (when dinosaurs roamed the Earth) the kid who had a trampoline in his back garden was clearly the son of royalty because those suckers were handmade locally and cost a bomb. Now of course, they are made super-cheaply offshore and you can buy them direct from a website to your door. We were chuffed that day to buy our little princess a ginormous, state-of-the-art tramp for a paltry $250 delivered.

It arrived in time for Christmas, in all its flat-packed glory, and one day between quitting work for the day and dinner time, I decided to “just go out there and quickly put up the trampoline”.

What a joke. [Read more…]

The Sad Truth About Google & SEO (And Why You Still Need An Awesome Website Anyway)

March 27, 2014 by Seamus Anthony Leave a Comment

Lots of businesses want a website primarily to get found on Google. And it’s true, people are searching Google for what you do and if you don’t have a website, nobody is ever going to find you. That’s where SEO guys like me can help. And in the early days of the Internet (you know, 6 or 7 years ago!) SEO was a “Magic Bullet Solution to Marketing”.

But the sad truth about SEO as a “Magic Bullet Solution To Marketing”?

It’s probably too late for you.

Seriously, I don’t mean to be a bummer but the SEO horse has pretty much bolted for most industry verticals in most areas.

How To Rank In Google Instantly

March 25, 2014 by Seamus Anthony

Oh God – that sounds EXACTLY like the kind of snake-oil salesman headline we should all run away from, doesn’t it? But actually this is a pretty straight up technique that works if the keyword (or phrase) you want to get found for in Google is not super-competitive. I just did it twenty minutes ago and thought I would share it with the world … cos I am such a nice guy.

Convert: Cure Their Pain

February 28, 2014 by Seamus Anthony Leave a Comment

Continues the Total Marketing Clarity series

The Fifth of the 5 C’s of Online Marketing is “Convert”

Eventually you need to convert your potential customers into paying customers. So this means that eventually your content has to stop being merely being useful and start selling.

How you sell is a function of your business, some people can sell online, others can’t. But one  thing is for sure, you can measure how well your online marketing is driving conversions (either in the form of online sales or enquiries, etc) and the other great thing is there are ways and means to improve these results over time. This is the arcane science called Conversion Optimisation. [Read more…]

Content: Keep Pokin’ ‘Em Where It Hurts

February 27, 2014 by Seamus Anthony Leave a Comment

Continues the Total Marketing Clarity series

The Fourth of the 5 C’s of Online Marketing is “Content”

Yes that’s right – MORE content.

Once you have their email you then need to begin drip-feeding them even more free content so that they start to know, like and trust you as an expert who can cure what ails them. And at the same time, rough though it sounds, you’ve got to keep pokin’ ‘em where it hurts, keep agitating their problem, so their pain stays top of mind. [Read more…]
